I’ll burn the world before I let him touch her. He won’t forget the strike against him, the knowledge that the girl he meant to be his is now my wife. The man who intended to be her husband has waged war in our city, selling and killing the innocent alongside those we’ve both grown to care for. Our worlds crash together, our common enemy uniting us. Somehow, she only ensnares me further, her moments of vulnerability awakening something inside me I didn’t know existed. Aoife guards her heart with a sharp tongue and defiance that should turn me away. She wasn’t meant to marry either man her father chose for her. I’ll do whatever it takes to have her - even accept a seat I never wanted at the head of the Irish family. Just one moment, a single glance into Aoife’s fierce gaze, and I am lost in a way I never want to be found. She was never meant to be mine, betrothed to a man born from nightmares.

And, as always seems to happen in every volume, he gets the snot kicked out of him in new and creative ways. Although much is bleak and tense, Harry's trademark dark humor is never far from the surface. What he risks, what drives him to do it, and the jaw-dropping outcome are all "turned up to 11" in this volume. It's remarkable that after all Harry has been through in the series so far, Jim Butcher manages to to reach a new high in terms of the stakes for Harry in this book. The same can be emphatically said for Changes. Amidst the amazing action scenes, political intrigue, and even romance, he never loses sight of the need to drive the story and his characters forward. I eventually caved in and read that series, and I was impressed by the way Butcher had a very clear idea of the arc of the story right from the start. Not intrigued at the possibility of getting to read a new milieu created by a wonderful author, but genuinely mad that he would divert his amazing creative energies and time away from the Harry Dresden books. I must say I was actually angry when I saw that Jim Butcher was taking time out to write the Codex Alera (Codex Alera, Book 1) series. I'm going to start this review a little unconventionally but bear with me. To purchase this book, please consider using my Amazon or links. Lucy Score makes writing romance look so easy. #Booktok got it right! I LOVED Things We Never Got Over. Since Naomi’s life imploded right in front of Knox, the least he can do is help her out of her jam.Īnd just as soon as she stops getting into new trouble he can leave her alone and get back to his peaceful, solitary life.Īt least, that’s the plan until the trouble turns to real danger. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin only to have her evil twin steal Naomi’s car and cash, leaving Naomi with a niece she didn’t know she had. Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. He doesn’t tolerate drama, even when it comes in the form of a stranded runaway bride.
